The Castello district is the largest and the second for population in Venice, on the east side of the city. This pretty apartment is located close to the main entrance of the Arsenale, the strategic center of power of Venice and important factory ships, not far from the hip part of the District, Via Garibaldi, a short walk from the San Marco area and two minutes walking from the vaporetto stop.
The Venetian Arsenale has always been one of the city's iconic sites and represents one of Europe's first industrial settlements. With its three kilometres of crenellated red brick walls, it occupies an area equal to about 15 per cent of Venice's urban development. It was here that the Serenissima Republic built the ships that enabled it to excel in trade in the Mediterranean and northern Europe, as well as becoming the bastion of the Venetian Republic.
Northern Europe as well as becoming the bulwark in European defence against Ottoman invaders. A history that began in the 12th century and still fascinates those fortunate enough to stroll within its monumental walls, among the placid pools of water and squeri.
